Traditional Medicine

Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine
DTAM is the principal government body under the Ministry of Public Health responsible for preserving, regulating, and promoting Thailand’s indigenous healthcare traditions as part of its national health ecosystem. It integrates traditional practices into Thailand’s broader health system with the aims of enhancing public wellbeing, supporting community health, and expanding the role of herbal and traditional treatments in preventive and rehabilitative care.
Its mandate includes codifying traditional medical knowledge, developing quality standards for herbal remedies, and transforming ‘folk’ practices into a globally recognized integrative health system. In the Museum and Thai Traditional Medical Training Centre, visitors can view comprehensive exhibits on the history, philosophy, and evolution of traditional Thai healing systems, including sections on Buddhist influences, regional folk wisdom, traditional massage techniques, food-based health practices, and historical medicinal artefacts.
Thai Traditional Medical Innovation Centre
TTMIC is a wellness centre that merges ancient principles with modern technology. Its TM-Flow system uses digital diagnostics to analyse the nervous system and blood vessels, quantifying the body’s elemental balance (Earth, Water, Wind, and Fire). This data-driven approach enables personalized treatments, such as Quantum Molecular Resonance (Q-Physio) for cellular regeneration and O-Zone baking infused with hemp-derived terpenes for deep detoxification. The centre also serves as an exhibition and distribution hub for Thai herbal products, showcasing locally developed remedies while functioning as a model Thai Herbal Pavilion.
By bridging the gap between historical holistic knowledge and contemporary clinical precision, the centre provides a blueprint for the future of evidence-based traditional medicine. This integration allows for a comprehensive look at how standardized natural extracts are validated and enhanced through advanced biotechnological monitoring and non-invasive therapeutic.
Sireeruckhachati Nature Learning Park
Originally established as a medicinal plant research garden, it has since evolved into a premier botanical research centre dedicated to medicinal biodiversity and recognised as a centre of excellence in botanical research. Today, this award-winning “Learning Park” seamlessly blends traditional Thai medical wisdom with modern conservation science, integrating ecological preservation with experiential education grounded in sustainability principles.
Participants can explore systematically arranged plant collections featuring hundreds of indigenous and therapeutic herbs, engage in guided herbal education sessions, enjoy tram or bicycle tours through shaded green landscapes, and attend workshops where they learn hands-on skills such as making traditional herbal inhalers or discovering plant uses for well-being. The site also includes exhibitions on Thai traditional medicine applications and supports interactive nature learning activities, making it ideal for students, researchers, and enthusiasts interested in biodiversity, ethnobotany, conservation, and the integration of medicinal plant wisdom into modern life.
