The Bangkok Metropolitan Region (BMR), is the political, economic, and cultural heart of Thailand. Centered in Bangkok city, the region extends beyond the capital’s administrative boundaries to include neighboring provinces such as Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, and Nakhon Pathom.
Commonly known as Greater Bangkok, the area is a complex landscape where modern infrastructure coexists with historic districts and traditional communities. The area is interconnected by an extensive network of highways, rail systems, and waterways, including the iconic Chao Phraya River, which has historically shaped settlement patterns and trade. Economically, the region contributes a significant share of Thailand’s GDP, driven by finance, manufacturing, and trade.
